The Puzzle Player software now has a 32 bit bersion for Windows 95/898/NT and a 16 bit version for Windows 3.1.
Better Color Support: You may now paint colors into the grid cells and/or the cell's text. You may paint the word cells, noise cells and the masked out areas of the puzzle.
Noise Only Mask Areas: You may now designate areas of a mask that Word Splash Pro will fill with only noise characters. No words will be hidden in these areas.
BMP Mask Import: You may now create a puzzle mask (shape and colors) using a standard Windows BMP image file.
Set Page Margins: You may now set the Top, Bottom, Left and Right page margins.
Word List Position: You may now specify that the word list will be placed next to the puzzle grid instead of always under the puzzle grid.
Lower Case Grid: The puzzle grid can now be printed in lower case characters.
Printed Grid Character Spacing: You may now specify the spacing that should be used when printing the puzzle grid.
Saved Page Layout Assignments: The page layout settings are now saved with the completed puzzle so that it will print the same each time you load it..
Better Circled Words: The answer sheet circled words have been improved to now use better ovals for diagonal words instead of the slightly rounded ends in version 4.0.
The new random word list generator allows you to choose exactly which word lists you would like to use. You may also save your choice of word lists for future reuse. A new set of word lists has also been created that were specially prepared just for random word list generation.
The spell checker will allow you to spell check right from Word Splash Pro. Spell check a single part of your puzzle, or every part of your puzzle at one time (word list, title, text paragraphs and noise fill text).
You may also use the period to enter any other type of text note that you want in your word list. Use this feature to categorize your word lists or add hints.
To aid with entering long questions a new editing mode has been added that hides the puzzle grid and expands the word list to fill the screen.
Print Preview: The print preview now allows access to Page Layout, Font and Text Paragraph settings
On-Screen Grid Sizing: The on-screen grid sizing has been tuned to provide automatic grid cell sizes that are easier to read and use on low resolution screens.
Load Window: The load window now shows the sizes of your word lists and masks. The load window also now allows you to hide the directory list. This makes it easier to simply select a new item to load without having to look at the directory list.
Last Location: The last location used to load/save files will now be memorized for each file type.
Menu & Toolbars: The menus and toolbar has been updated for easier use.
Smarts: The intelligent features of Word Splash Pro have been finely tuned to make using the software even more intuitive, flexible and enjoyable.
Colors: The software now fully adapts your chosen Windows color settings.
Pop-Up Menus: New pop-up menus exist for the puzzle grid and the [New][Load][Save][Make] buttons for faster access to features.
Save: Standard "Save As" menu items have been added.
HTML: The Publish HTML feature can now include your font colors.
New Puzzle Settings Prompt: When you create a new puzzle Word Splash Pro will now ask if you would like to keep your current settings or load the defaults.
"/p" Parameter: If you launch Word Splash Pro with the /p parameter it will start, print any puzzles also included as parameters, and then exit again.
Word Lists: A new set of word lists each with words that have different beginning letters and word lengths has been created. These are great for random word list generation.
Samples: New sample puzzles have been created, and the old sample puzzles have been changed to reflect the new features of Word Splash Pro.
The Page Layout Window now has a No Noise check box under the Answer Grid section. When marked, the answer puzzle will be printed without noise characters.
The Auto Size feature will now create puzzles that are the same width as the longest word as long as all of the words will fit. Version 5.0 was automatically creating puzzles that were the length of the longest word + 1.
Also, if you set a grid to the exact same length as the longest word the software would not fit the word into the grid. This has been corrected.
The Box highlighting style for the answer grid was not drawn correctly when exporting or clipping the puzzle grid as a graphic file. It was displaying all the noise characters as black boxs. This has been corrected.
(This was not a problem when Printing puzzles.)
The Word Character count found in the Puzzle Information display was not correct if there were hidden words in the word list. This has been corrected.
The text export features was no longer available after the graphic export was added. This feature was reinstated..
You can now enter many special characters more quickly by using a new keyboard method. To enter a special character simply press the Ctrl and Alt keys at the same time. Release them, and then press the two keys that will make up the special character when combined. The accent character is always entered first, followed by the alphabetic character.

The JPG creation process was accidentally disabled in prior minor release
of Word Splash Pro. It has been enabled again.
When fonts were loaded from saved files the colors were not getting set. This has been fixed in this version.
The spell checker dictionaries have been updated. They are now larger and better defined. The installation process for the optional dictionaries now fully installs and turns on the dictionary files.
Changes have been made that correct compatibility with some printers.
